The Canucks have won just 3 of their past 10 games......Buffalo is within two points of the final playoff spot in the East after hammering Tampa Bay 7-3.........The Rangers earn a playoff spot after doubling up on New Jersey 4-2.......Washington downed Detroit 5-3 with Alex Ovechkin scoring twice and Anaheim held off San Jose 5-3.
The Boston Bruins have locked up a member of their Stanley Cup winning team. Boston re-signed forward Shawn Thornton to a two-year contract extension. The 34-year-old has four goals and 12 points this season.
The Nashville Predators may be ready to add a potent offensive weapon as the playoffs draw near. Alexander Radulov appears to be returning to the team after spending the last four seasons in the K-H-L. Radulov left Nashville with one year left on his entry-level deal. He was a two-time M-V-P in the K-H-L and represented Russia at the 2010 Olympics.
The injury-riddled Detroit Red Wings learning centre Darren Helm will be out four to six weeks with a sprained MCL. Detroit is already without captain and defenceman Nicklas Lidstrom (deep bone bruise in his right ankle), defenceman Jonathan Ericsson (broken left wrist), defenceman Jakub Kindl (strained oblique), right wing Johan Franzen (back spasms) and goalie Joey MacDonald (back).

In the NBA, the Celtics got by Atlanta 79-76 and Chicago, without their big star Derrick Rose, still romped by Orlando 85-59.........Tristan Thompson finally grabbed some of the spotlight from top-draft pick Kyrie Irving. The Canadian rookie scored a career-high 27 points and had 12 rebounds to help the Cleveland Cavaliers edge the New Jersey Nets 105-100. Irving added 26 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Elsewhere in the N-B-A, Philly romped past Charlotte 105-80, Dallas downed Denver 112-95 and Minnesota beat Golden State 97-93.
Derek Fisher's time with the Houston Rockets was brief. The Rockets waived Fisher less than a week after acquiring him in a trade with the L-A Lakers.
Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was taken to a hospital for stitches and precautionary X-rays after getting hit near the right eye by a batted ball during today's exhibition game. Cabrera is transitioning back to third from first following Detroit's acquisition of Prince Fielder.
The New York Mets owners and a trustee for Bernard Madoff's fraud victims settled Monday for $162 million in a case aimed at repairing the damage from a massive investment scheme. The Mets owners will not pay anything for three years. The case has damaged the Mets' financial picture, forcing the team to slash payroll and try to raise tens of millions of dollars by selling small chunks of the team.
Some positive signs for English soccer player Fabrice Muamba. The 23-year-old Bolton midfielder has started breathing independently and responding to family members, significant signs of recovery two days after suffering a cardiac arrest and nearly dying during a match.

Huberdeau wins the Children's Wish Fan's Choice Award while Gauthier picks up three trophies including top scorer and most improved player.
